Composting: fertilizer from fallen leaves

Eco education / 15.05.2020

Starts the summer season and traditionally will begin to restore order in the areas. Again, a problem will arise, what to do with fallen leaves. Therefore, we will remind about the alternative to its burning. Instead of air pollution smoke we offer to make fertilizers yourself.

Composting is an environmentally safe way to recycle fallen leaves, tops and remnants of plants.

The process itself is simple, it does not require extra monetary costs and numerous efforts. For composting, you can build a healing or stack leaves directly in the ground. In the second embodiment, you need trench depth of up to 1 m and a width of about 1.5 m. This method is more convenient, when the substances are uniformly moistened and do not dry out.

Leaves make the layers not thicker than 30 cm each. They are poured soil. In such heaps can also be discarded bird litter, the remains of food.

In summer, raw materials are perelopachivayut about 2-3 times and water. Humidity should be maintained at the level of 40 – 60%. Laid summer compost matures 2-3 months in the fall – 6-8 months.

There are some rules that must be remembered that the fertilizer turned out to be high quality. Do not dump weeds in the process of flowering. Organize the place of composting in the distance of 15 meters from the water source and in the shade.

The finished compost is dark, crumby mass. Contrary to popular belief, it is properly produced it has no rotten odor, but rather similar to the earth.

Within a year after laying compost you will have free fertilizer. Nutrients in it are stored for 4 years. It can be used as a nutrient for bushes and trees or just for soil fertilization.

Just in case, we recall that the burning of the leaves is truênnâ ourselves. The unpleasant odor of smoke is the smallest amiss from such faded. One hour of stay around the campfire with leaves is 5 hours on the motorway. And with the smoke secreted benzaryren, which can cause cancer, as well as carcinogen dioxide, heavy metals, nitrogen oxide and other poisonous substances.

It will be wrong to appeal to the fact that “the leaves burned always and nothing”. Previously, trees and plants did not learn such a number of poisonous substances from air and chemical fertilizers from soils. For one simple reason – there were no such substances. After all, with the development of industry and environmental engineering has become so contaminated.

We often complain about the air quality in Krivoy Rog and the fact that we breathe hard. So let’s not aggravate the situation on our own.
